164 - The Offspring

Data Stellare 43657.0: Mentre l'Enterprise sta esplorando una cintura di asteroidi, Data sta conducendo un esperimento segreto. I suoi colleghi sono preoccupati, perché Data non è abituato a tenere segreti i suoi progetti; quando si decidono a chiedere all'androide che cosa sta succedendo, è Data stesso a presentar loro il risultato del suo esperimento: sua figlia Lal. In seguito allo sviluppo di una nuova tecnica illustrata ad una Conferenza di Cibernetica conclusa da poco, Data è infatti riuscito a trasferire i propri schemi mentali in un'altra macchina. Ma, nonostante il progetto sembri riuscito, Data dovrà vedersela con Picard, che si indigna perché l'androide non l'ha avvertito di ciò che stava facendo, e con la Flotta Stellare, che ritiene questo esperimento estremamente interessante.
