047 - The Breach

2153: All'Enterprise viene richiesto di evacuare un gruppo di geologi denobulani da Xantoras, un pianeta che è caduto sotto il controllo di una fazione militare ostile; l'operazione di salvataggio si rivela più ardua del previsto quando l'equipaggio apprende che i geologi sono intrappolati in alcune grotte nelle profondità del pianeta. Nel frattempo, Phlox deve affrontare un dilemma etico quando si trova a dover curare un altro rifugiato colpito da una dose letale di radiazioni; il rifugiato è un Antarano, membro di una razza verso la quale i Denobulani coltivano un odio di lunga data.

In questo episodio...

• Si vede un tribolo. Phlox dice che è molto difficile da acquisire perché fuorilegge in molti mondi, che non è pericoloso, che le uniche cose che fa sono mangiare e figliare (prodigiosamente).
• Phlox tenta di ricontattare suo figlio Mettus dopo 10 anni che non lo sente. Avevamo sentito parlare per la prima volta del rapporto di Phlox con i propri figli in A Night in Sickbay.
• Per la scalata, Trip, Malcolm e Travis indossano l'uniforme da deserto.

• Per realizzare le scene del salvataggio dei geologi, Anthony Montgomery, Connor Trinneer e Dominic Keating hanno ricevuto alcune lezioni di arrampicata sulla roccia dal coordinatore degli stunt Vince Deadrick, Jr presso Stoney Point, vicino a Los Angeles.
• La battuta di Hudak citata sotto ricorda molto quella del romulano morente in The Enemy quando, alla proposta di guarirlo con i ribosomi klingon, dice: «I'd rather die than pollute my body with klingon filth!».

Blooper

• Quando Trip e Reed penzolano nel pozzo, si vedono le loro ombre proiettate sulla parete destra. È impossibile che il loro profilo fosse disegnato dalla luce delle loro torce, quindi si tratta probabilmente di una luce di scena che, ovviamente, non può esistere nelle caverne

YATI

• È molto molto improbabile che nel XXII secolo si abbandoni l'uso del casco di sicurezza quando si fa arrampicata, per giunta in grotta; infatti verso la fine dell'episodio cade di tutto sulle teste del gruppo.
• È veramente strano che nel XXII secolo usino lo stesso identico equipaggiamento da arrampicata del XX secolo. Stessi moschettoni, stessi discensori, stessi rinvii. Inoltre, a meno che la roccia non sia estremamente friabile, il chiodo da parete friend piantato da Mayweather, avrebbe dovuto reggere tranquillamente il peso di loro 3 in caduta, invece di staccarsi come un comune chiodo casalingo.

Versione italiana

• In occasione della prima trasmissione in Italia, questo episodio è stato trasmesso senza la sigla iniziale ed è stato unito a Horizon, privato dei titoli di coda. Tra i due episodi, oltre la pausa pubblicitaria è stato trasmesso un breve stacco che mostra l'Enterprise mentre entra in curvatura e il logo «Star Trek Enterprise» accompagnati da un jingle tratto dalla sigla di apertura.

Hudak: I'm a teacher of xenomythology. I study the legends of alien species.

Phlox: I was determined not to raise them as I was raised.

Phlox: You wanted to know what my children would think if they were here now. I can tell you what Mettus would think: he would be happy to have me grant your request, and let you die. But that is not the example I tried to set for my children. Why not live? Set an example for yours. [T:31:52]

Yolen: You can't force us to leave!
Tucker: Wanna bet? We didn't risk our lives just to hear you say 'thanks but no, thanks', so pack up whatever you need, because, I swear... I'll tie you up and drag you up by your ankles, if that's how you want it!

Tucker: Are those rock samples? We can't carry anymore!
Yolen: It took us six weeks to extract this from the rock bed.
Tucker: If you don't start moving in the next five seconds, I'm gonna take my phase pistol and shoot you in the ass! [T:33:06]

Tucker: You'd better get your climbing gear on.
Yolen: We don't have any... climbing gear.
Reed: You mean to tell us... that you climbed down that rock face without any ropes... any safety equipment at all?
Yolen: Exactly.
Tucker: Well, in that case, after you!

Archer: So is mine.
