Data Stellare Sconosciuta: Kai Winn arriva su Deep Space Nine per assistere Sisko durante la cerimonia del suo matrimonio; durante l'incontro con la Kai, Sisko ammette che i Profeti l'hanno avvisato che dovrà affrontare un cammino molto difficoltoso. Più tardi, Winn ha una visione dei Profeti, che le rivelano che una Guida la visiterà; i Profeti sperano che, assieme, potranno guidare la ricostruzione di Bajor. Nel frattempo, Dukat, modificato chirurgicamente per assumere le sembianze bajoriane, fa la propria apparizione sulla Passeggiata della stazione spaziale e si reca in visita dalla Kai.

I nomi (provvisori o definitivi) dei primi due episodi che compongono questo arco vengono usati in astronomia per identificare la parte più chiara (Penumbra) e più scura (Umbra) dell'ombra creata da un'eclisse (Eclipse).

 watches Dukat scarf his food.
