522 - Empok Nor

Data Stellare 50901.7: O'Brien, Garak, Nog vengono inviati su Empok Nor, la gemella di Deep Space Nine, per recuperare alcune apparecchiature necessarie alla base federale, ma i tre e una squadra di salvataggio rimangono imprigionati nella stazione spaziale cardassiana ritenuta abbandonata.

• Si vedono per la prima volta in Deep Space Nine delle tute spaziali della Flotta Stellare. Le tute spaziali utilizzate in questo episodio sono quelle realizzate per First Contact.

• O'Brien ordina a Boq'ta di riallineare il campo del flusso magnetico nel condotto G-4 (la G è la settima lettera dell'alfabeto).
• Quando O'Brien cerca di attraccare il runabout ad Empok Nor, si vede una schermata con titolo TACTICAL SCAN 4077.
• Sulla destra dello schermo con il TACTICAL SCAN 4077 c'è una colonna di numeri tra cui spicca un 47.
• La squadra inviata nella missione di recupero è formata da 7 persone, 4 delle quali vengono uccise.

7    EXT. SPACE - EMPOK NOR (OPTICAL)

 A space station much like our own, except this one is
 lifeless.  Motionless.  Eerie.
 All the lights are out, and the station itself has
 drifted, looking like a bicycle wheel about to tip
 over.


8    INT. EMPOK NOR - PROMENADE

 Empty. Silent.  Moonlight streaks through the windows.


9   INT. EMPOK NOR - SURGERY

 Darker. And yet... through the darkness, shapes.
 Three body-length chambers.


 CAMERA DRIFTS IN on one of the chambers. It has a
 glass cover, which catches whatever little light there
 is, and allows us to make something out inside the
 chamber: a CARDASSIAN FACE.


         FADE OUT.
       END OF TEASER

Dopo aver rinvenuto i contenitori criogenici dei soldati cardassiani e che il runabout è stato distrutto, O'Brien decide di modificare il
deflettore della stazione per inviare un SOS. Per questo dà le istruzioni alla squadra. Le scene successive tagliate erano le seguenti:

37   INT. EMPOK NOR - CONDUIT

 Boq'ta is working away at an open access panel, while
 Amaro is crouched nearby, keeping a sharp lookout.
 Boq'ta is really sweating the situation, he's very
 nervous.


38   ANGLE ON THE OPEN PANEL

 to see his hand shaking as he tries to tighten a bolt.
 He drops the tool, it goes CLATTERING down into the
 tangle of circuitry.


39   AMARO

 reacting to the sound. Boq'ta tries to get a hold of
 himself, taking a deep breath.


     AMARO
   You okay?


     BOQ'TA
   My hand's shaking...


     AMARO
    (letting him off the hook)
   Must've had too much coffee...
   take a break. Show me what to do.


 She moves to his side, peers into the panel.


     BOQ'TA
   I was just realigning the --


 Suddenly a strange RUSTLING SOUND from down the
 conduit. They both freeze, and look in the direction
 of the sound -- which seems to have come from around a
 corner formed by an intersection with another conduit.
 Amaro gestures for Boq'ta to "stay put." He then grabs
 his weapon, takes it off safety, and slowly moves down
 the conduit toward the intersection.
 Just as he reaches the corner, we hear the sound again.
 A faint, intermittent BREATHING sound.
 He readies his weapon, and prepares himself. In a
 single, fluid motion, he swings around into the --


40   INTERSECTION

 and is about to fire -- then stops himself.


41   AMARO'S POV

 of an air vent, intermittently opening and closing,
 causing the "breathing" sound.


42   OFF OF AMARO'S FACE

 as he smiles tersely, then looks back at Boq'ta.
 Giving him an "everything's okay" look. Boq'ta goes
 back to work.
