Data Stellare 51096.2: Sisko, intrappolato su un pianeta assieme a un Vorta morente e ad alcuni Jem'Hadar, deve venire a patti con i Jem'Hadar disperati per lo scarseggiare del ketracel e con il Vorta che lotta per restare in vita a qualunque costo.

Rocks and Shoals è il nome del vecchio manuale della Corte Marziale della Marina Militare Americana.
Ad una domanda diretta fatta a Ronald Moore su Internet a proposito dell'attinenza tra il titolo e la storia dell'episodio, Moore ha risposto: «Rocks and Shoals does not contain a court martial. The title seemed thematically right to me, since the episode deals with some characters running up on the "rocks" and others entering "shoal water." I think that the phrase itself actually referred to the Royal Navy's judicial system, but I could be wrong. In any case, the title just came to me as I was working on the script and although later I remembered the judicial connection, it wasn't the initial reason for the title. There are also themes of justice and military order in the script, so I think it's still appropriate.»

Dopo la scena conclusiva dell'attacco Jem'Hadar e della "cattura" del Vorta, erano previste queste scene, nelle quali c'è la sepoltura dei soldati Jem'Hadar e il recupero da parte della IKS Rotarran (con a bordo Worf) della squadra di Sisko.

81   EXT. BOX CANYON - FLOOR - DAY

 Sisko is stabbing a Dominion disruptor rifle into the
 ground, bayonet first. WIDEN to reveal the new
 GRAVEYARD that's been dug here in the floor of the
 canyon. There's a rock cairn grave for each Jem'Hadar,
 and a Dominion disruptor rifle has been planted in the
 ground at the head of each grave in the ancient manner
 of fallen soldiers. There's also a grave for Gordon,
 and a Starfleet phaser rifle has been planted at the
 head of his grave. Neeley, Garak, and Nog are standing
 nearby. They're all dirty and disheveled from the
 work.

     NEELEY
   Should someone say a few words?

     SISKO
    (shakes his head)
   Their gods were the Founders.
   They won't hear our prayers.

 They stand there in silence for a long moment.


82   NEW ANGLE (OPTICAL)

 As WORF and TWO N.D. KLINGONS MATERIALIZE in the
 canyon. They're armed and ready for anything.

     WORF
   Captain!

 Worf leads the Klingons over to the small group.

     GARAK
   For once, Mister Worf it's good to
   see you...

     WORF
   We detected your distress call a
   few hours ago.

 He looks around with worry.

     WORF
   Jadzia... ?

     SISKO
   She's hurt, but she'll be fine.
   She's back at the basecamp with
   Doctor Bashir and the chief.
   Worf glances over the graves.


     WORF
   You were outnumbered. It must
   have been glorious.

 Sisko and the others just stare at Worf, who clearly
 doesn't understand why they're looking at him like
 that. Sisko walks off and the others follow, leaving
 only the graves of the dead to mark what happened
 here...

         FADE OUT.
