Sarek è il principale indiziato del delitto. Tutto si complica ulteriormente quando l'
Enterprise viene attaccata da una nave sconosciuta.
- Si vedono per la prima volta gli Andoriani.
- Si vedono per la prima volta i genitori di Spock.
- Il nome della Tal Shiar è un omaggio al «tal shaya», il nome inventato da D.C. Fontana in Journey to Babel per indicare la mossa vulcaniana per spezzare il collo. [Tal Shiar]
- Benché non impossibile, è comunque strano che un chirurgo come McCoy non abbia la destrezza manuale per fare il saluto vulcaniano.
